Archiving a Broadcast Clip with TVEyes

Modified on: Fri, 27 Jan, 2023 at 12:28 PM

You can archive broadcast clips within the Cision Communications Cloud. Archiving a clip means that the portion of the video/stream you choose to save will be available in your Cision Communications Cloud for perpetuity (unless purposefully deleted). The benefit of archiving a clip is that the broadcast video/stream that accompanies the mention initially in the Cision Communications Cloud is available for only the first 28 days for content coming through via our TVEyes provider. After that point, the broadcast video/stream will disappear from the profile while the closed caption and metric data remains. No additional package or service needs to be added in order to archive clips.

Finding the Broadcast Content to Archive

First, find the broadcast content you want to archive. (NOTE: There are a few broadcast outlets, such as Fox News, that do not provide video/stream only related closed caption text.)

  1. Since related video/stream will be included for only the first 28 days in the system for a broadcast clip, use the Last 30 Days Saved Search on your My Coverage page.
  2. Next, Click on the Medium filter
  3. Select Broadcast from the filter choices
  4. Find the clip you want to edit a clip in the results panel.
  5. The profile pane will show data associated with the clip and the related video/stream.
  6. If the clip is for a radio mention, the same image will always appear in the profile as a visual placeholder. Once you select the Edit button, you will see the specific transcript text for the broadcast.
  7. The preview of the video/stream in the profile includes buttons that will enable you to play, fast forward, and rewind. NOTE: While the length of video/stream that is available in profile is short, an extended version of the video/stream (up to 20 minutes) is available once you click on the Edit Clip Button.
  8. If you are unable to find the clip quickly, you may want to return to the filters panel and apply additional filters such as Date to further narrow the coverage appearing in the results panel.

Scroll down the clip profile until you see the Edit button under the video/stream. Click the Edit button.

When the profile of the clip appears, you have two options for creating an archiving clip:  either by using the video/stream itself or by using the additional closed caption text provided.

Using the Video/Stream to Create an Archived Clip

  1. In the left panel containing the video/stream, click the play button. NOTE: You may want to watch the entire video/stream provided first before proceeding with creating the archived clip. Also, the version of the video/stream that is available in this view is longer (up to 20 minutes) than what is initially presented in the clip profile.
  2. As the video plays, click the green Set Start button at the point you want your archived clip to start. Alternatively, you can enter the Start/End Time explicitly in the field provided.
  3. A green marker will appear in the video to indicate where your clip will start.
  4. Click the red Set End button when you reach the point in the video/stream where the clip should end.
  5. A red marker will appear in the video to indicate where your clip will end. NOTE: You can archive up to 20 minutes of the video/stream.
  6. Click the Preview button to ensure that the clip you have created matches your preferences.
  7. Select the Next button to continue to the process.
  8. Click the Finish to create the clip. You can click back to return to the clip creation process.
  9. Repeat this process to create additional clips if desired.

Using the Closed Caption Text to Create a Clip

  1. The left panel of the screen will show the video/stream. NOTE: The version of the video/stream that is available in this view is longer (up to 10 minutes) than what is initially presented in the clip profile. You can use this panel to play, fast forward and rewind. The Highlight and Scroll buttons in the right hand corner of the bottom panel provide additional options to enhance your viewing of the video/stream. The Highlight button will highlight the text in the bottom panel as it is spoken in the video/stream. The Scroll button will scroll down through the closed caption text automatically as it is spoken in the video/stream. While these buttons are on by default, you can click each button to turn the feature off.
  2. The right panel of the screen will provide direction for creating a clip. Once a clip is created, this panel will show the exact start and end times for the clip.
  3. The text (closed captioning) will appear in the bottom panel. Here, you will want place your cursor on the first word of the text you want to capture and then drag your mouse over the rest of the verbiage that should be included in the clip. To find the verbiage, you can either scroll down through the closed captioning or use or use CTRL + F/CMD + F to quickly find the text.
  4. Click the Set Start/End Point button when it appears.
  5. Once the Start/End Point has been set the fields will be filled in with the Start/End Points that reflect the verbiage you highlighted.
  6. Click the Preview button to ensure that the clip you have created matches your preferences.
  7. Select the Next button to continue to the process.
  8. Click the Finish to create the clip. You can click back to return to the clip creation process.
  9. Repeat this process to create additional clips if desired.

  • At this point, the clip(s) have been created and will show in the Saved Clips section of the profile. The Date associated with the clip indicates when the clip was saved. NOTE: If you have created multiple clips, you will see all of them in the Saved Clips section ordered from most to least recently created.
