Smart Tags Overview

Modified on: Wed, 30 Nov, 2022 at 6:55 PM

Smart Tags will help you categorise your news based on how many times a defined term is mentioned in an article. To use this feature it must be enabled on your account and set up properly.  If you would like Smart Tags enabled, please get in touch with your Account Manager. For more information on setting up your Smart Tags, click here.

Default settings categorise coverage in the following way:

  1. Feature: 3 Mentions within 250 words
  2. Brief: 1 mention within 250 words
  3. Mention: Anything less than 1 mention in 150 words

Once Smart Tags are enabled in your Cision Communications Cloud platform, you will now be able to search and filter by articles categorised as Brief, Feature, and Mention.

Filtering by Smart Tags in My Coverage:

When you head to the My Coverage section of your system, you will now see a new filter on the left-hand side called Smart Tags. When you open this filter, you will see Brief, Feature, and Mention available. This filter can be used in tandem with any of the other filters you have available to be able to just locate the coverage with a specific amount of mentions.

Searching by Smart Tags:

To search for coverage by Smart Tag rather than use the filters, head to the News drop-down and click on Search.

Once you are on the search page, enter any other criteria you would like to add to your search.  Once all criteria are entered, click the blue plus sign to add the option for Smart Tags.

You will have the option to Include or Exclude your selections based on your search need. Select the option you would like to search, and once your search is complete, click the blue Search button to run it and view your results.

Viewing Smart Tags in Columns:

Not only can you search and filter for your Smart Tags, but they can be seen in the grid view. To access the grid view, click on the three lines icon in the upper right of the page.

You will want to use the bottom scroll bar and scroll to the right to find where the Smart Tag column is located.  This area has a drag-and-drop feature that allows you to grab any column by the heading and drop it into the place you would like.  That way, anytime you click on this view, you will see your columns as you designed them.

Editing Smart Tag Values on your Coverage:

Once a Smart Tag has been automatically applied to your coverage, you can change it.  The Smart Tag will be located inside the clip, as seen in the image below. This will show whether the clip was tagged as a Feature, Brief, or Mention.

To change this to any other options available, click on the Blue Pencil icon next to the Smart Tag heading. Once you click the Pencil Icon, you will get the following pop-up.

Select the option you would like to change it to and click Save.
