Broadcast Clip Creation

Modified on: Mon, 21 Nov, 2022 at 9:55 PM

When broadcast mentions entering your Next Generation Cision Communications Cloud,  you will automatically receive the related video or audio stream of your brand mention. This default stream is available on your platform for 30 days after airing. After that time, the default stream provided will go away, leaving the data associated with the hit (title, outlet information, sentiment, reach, etc.) unless you have saved your own video/audio clip. Additionally, during the first 30 days following the airing, you can create your own clip from the default stream and then share it with others within your organisation or save it for perpetuity (unless purposefully deleted). You can follow the directions below to take advantage of the option to create and save or share the clip.  If you have Broadcast monitoring as part of your Cision contract, no additional cost or package is required to save or share clips.

Finding Broadcast Content to Clip:

To Broadcast hits within the last 30 days for which you can create clips,

  1. Click the Analytics tab on the toolbar.
  2. Select the My Dashboards option.
  3. Find the Total Mentions chart.
  4.  If you have multiple Analytics Dashboards or Total Mentions Charts, you will want to verify that the monitoring search being used to create that chart is the one for which you want to see broadcast hits.
  5. Because clips can be created for content from the last 30 days, you will want to be sure the chart shows mentions for this time period.
  6. If your Total Mentions chart indicates a different period of time, click the Actions button and select the Edit Date range option underneath to select the Last 30 Day range.
  7. Click on the Total Mentions from the Last 30 Days. This will show you a list of news articles and broadcast hits.

When the Total Mentions appear, you will see a trend of the mentions at the top of the page and the list of all articles and mentions from the last 30 days at the bottom. Scroll to bring the list of articles and mentions in view. Click the Filter by option and select broadcast-specific options. This will cause the list to be filtered to show only broadcast mentions.

Find the broadcast mention for which you want to create a clip, click on the Outlet Name. This action will open the mention profile card with the related video/audio stream that can be edited.

Creating a Broadcast Clip:

Once you have found the broadcast mention you want to clip and opened its profile card (see the previous section), you can easily create your own clip that can be saved or shared.  You have two options for creating an archiving clip:  either by using the video/stream itself or by using the additional closed caption text provided. Both of these options are described in the section below.

When you create a clip, you will have the option to Share the clip via the Instant Play option or save the clip in the Cision platform using the Archive option. When using Instant Play, the system will provide you with a link that you can use to share the clip. Instant Play links are only active for 30 days from the broadcast. As a result, you will want to have your purpose for creating the clip in mind throughout the process.

Using the Video/Audio Stream to Create a Clip:

To create a broadcast clip using the default video/audio stream,

  1. Click the Edit Broadcast Clip button under the default video/audio stream. The stream can be found on the right-hand side of the broadcast hit profile page.
  2. Click the play button to play the clip and gain a sense of where you want to start and stop the clip.
  3. As the video plays, click the green Set Start button at the point you want your archived clip to start. Alternatively, you can enter the Start/End Time explicitly in the field provided.
  4. A green marker will appear in the video to indicate where your clip will start.
  5. Click the red Set End button when you reach the point in the video/stream where the clip should end.
  6. A red marker will appear in the video to indicate where your clip will end. NOTE: You can archive up to 10 minutes of the video/stream.
  7. Click the Preview button to ensure that the clip you have created matches your preferences.
  8. Select the Next button to continue the process.
  9. Select the Instant Play option if your purpose for creating the clip is to share it with others. Once this option is selected, the system will provide you with a link that you can use to share the clip. Note- Instant Play links are only active for 30 days from the time of the broadcast.
  10. Select the Archive option if you want to save the clip for perpetuity in the Cision platform.
  11. Click Finish to create the clip. You can click back to return to the clip creation process.

Using the Closed Caption Text to Create a Clip:

To create a broadcast clip using the closed caption text,

  1. Click the Edit Broadcast Clip button under the default video/audio stream. The stream can be found on the right-hand side of the broadcast hit profile page.
  2. The left panel of the screen will show the video/stream. NOTE: The version of the video/stream that is available in this view is longer than what is initially presented in the clip profile. You can use this panel to play, fast forward, and rewind. The Highlight and Scroll buttons in the right-hand corner of the bottom panel provide additional options to enhance your viewing of the video/stream. The Highlight button will highlight the text in the bottom panel as it is spoken in the video/stream. The Scroll button will scroll down through the closed caption text automatically as it is spoken in the video/stream. While these buttons are on by default, you can click each button to turn the feature off.
  3. The right panel of the screen will provide directions for creating a clip. Once a clip is created, this panel will show the exact start and end times.
  4. The text (closed captioning) will appear in the bottom panel. Here, you will want to place your cursor on the first word of the text you want to capture and then drag your mouse over the rest of the verbiage that should be included in the clip. To find the verbiage, you can either scroll down through the closed captioning or use or use CTRL + F/CMD + F to quickly find the text.
  5. Click the Set Start/End Point button when it appears.
  6. Once the Start/End Point has been set, the fields will be filled in with the Start/End Points that reflect the verbiage you highlighted.
  7. Click the Preview button to ensure that the clip you have created matches your preferences.
  8. Select the Next button to continue the process.
  9. Click Finish to create the clip. You can click back to return to the clip creation process.
  10. Select the Instant Play option if your purpose for creating the clip is to share it with others. Once this option is selected, the system will provide you with a link that you can use to share the clip. Note- Instant Play links are only active for 30 days from the time of the broadcast.
  11. Select the Archive option if you want to save the clip for perpetuity in the Cision platform.
  12. Click Finish to create the clip. You can click back to return to the clip creation process.

Once you have Archived a Clip, it will replace the default video/audio stream.

Here you can,

  1. Play the Archived broadcast clip.
  2. Edit the clip further using the Edit Broadcast Clip button.
  3. Revert to the Original default video/audio stream provided. This option is only available during the first 30 days following the airing.
